An Integrated Spectrophotometric Survey of Nearby Star-Forming Galaxies
We present integrated optical spectrophotometry for a sample of 417 nearby galaxies. Our observations consist of spatially integrated, S/N = 10− 100 spectroscopy between 3600 and 6900 Å at ∼ 8 Å FWHM resolution. In addition, we present nuclear (2. 5 × 2. 5) spectroscopy for 153 of these objects. Our sample targets a diverse range of galaxy types, including starbursts, peculiar galaxies, interac...
متن کاملThe NICMOS snapshot survey of nearby galaxies
We present “snapshot” observations with the NearInfrared Camera and MultiObject Spectrometer (NICMOS) on board the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) of 94 nearby galaxies from the Revised Shapley Ames Catalog. Images with 0.2 resolution were obtained in two filters, a broad-band continuum filter (F160W, roughly equivalent to the H-band) and a narrow band filter centered on the Paα line (F187N or F19...
متن کاملAre the nearby groups of galaxies gravitationally bound objects ?
We have compared numerical simulations to observations for the nearby (< 40 Mpc) groups of galaxies (Huchra & Geller 1982 and Ramella et al. 2002). The group identification is carried out using a group-finding algorithm developed by Huchra & Geller (1982). Using cosmological N-body simulation code with the ΛCDM cosmology, we show that the dynamical properties of groups of galaxies identified fr...
متن کاملDistances to Nearby Galaxies in Sculptor ⋆
We present an analysis of Hubble Space Telescope/WFPC2 images of nine nearby galaxies in Sculptor. We derive their distances from the luminosity of the tip of the red giant branch stars with a typical accuracy of ∼ 12 %. Their distances are 4.21 Mpc (Sc 22), 4.92 Mpc (DDO 226), 3.94 Mpc (NGC 253), 3.40 Mpc (KDG 2), 3.34 Mpc (DDO 6), 3.42 Mpc (ESO 540-030), 4.43 Mpc (ESO 245–05), 4.27 Mpc (UGCA ...
متن کاملH α Kinematics of the SINGS Nearby Galaxies Survey – II
This is the second part of an Hα kinematics follow–up survey of the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS) sample. The aim of this program is to shed new light on the role of baryons and their kinematics and on the dark/luminous matter relation in the star forming regions of galaxies, in relation with studies at other wavelengths. The data for 37 galaxies are presented. The observation...
